Honest Burgers

It’s been a long time since I’ve been completely blown away by a concept as humble as a burger, yes this post is about burgers and people who like to eat them. Doesn’t get any deeper than that.

I’ve eaten quite a few of them already, but JESUS this experience was something else. Let’s go.

The British burger giant Honest Burgers is the holy grail of all meat, and don’t just take my word for it, nothing spells out sweet success more than winning the approval among the thick skinned critics who nowadays have less shits to give than ever and relentlessly try to single out the weak. The domination continues.

On Sunday 13th of October, I popped along to the chain’s newest venture on Portobello Road en suit of their popularity in Brixton, Soho and Camden. The special event being held was in aid of The Prince’s Trust with all of the proceeds made between 12-5pm going towards the charity, what better way to get diners to open up their wallets and stomachs than for a fantastic cause?

From the simple menu choose from the finest free range chicken, Ginger Pig’s rare aged beef, veggie option or ask the waiters for the ‘Special Burger’ of the season. Our favourite had to be the signature Honest Burger – the medium rare, firm to the touch but tender to the bite beef patty ensured that there was no end to the trickling of meat juice after each bite.

Tummies rumbling yet? I hear you.

Here are the pictures! Pass the love around the table if you please.

Honest Burger £9 – Medium/rare beef, sweet red onion relish, smoked bacon, mature cheddar, pickled cucumber and shredded lettuce

Chicken Burger £8.50 – Grilled free range chicken, shredded lettuce, tomato and mustard mayonnaise

Special Burger £10.50 – Black pudding, apple tempura, and tarragon & caper mayo

As well as what goes into the meat, what goes on top is equally as important so depending on which burger you choose, you will get a few of the following:

  • Toasted glazed bun – A heavenly pillow gently caressing the meat and relishes in between
  • Black Pudding – Grated into the meat adding an intense rusky richness
  • Apple Tempura – A sweet and mushy disk of apple coated in a crisp golden batter
  • Red Onion Relish – Caramelised and melting into the bun
  • Mature Cheddar – A blanket of the creamiest cheddar to round the burger off

Layers of texture and flavour, all burgers are also accompanied by a side of rosemary chips leaving you satisfied for a good half a day.

If you haven’t sensed it already, I’m gushing with love. The quality, value and service makes me want to say something cheesy like Honestly it’s the best burger.

Whether you’re a lover or hater, Honest Burgers is here to stay at the very top. In the words of Kendrick Lamar – What is competition? I’m trying to raise the bar high, and that goes for Shake Shack, GBK and Five Guys.

For customers who have CD or Gluten Sensitivity, fear not because gluten-free buns are also available.
